Fabricut announces new collection inspired by Mount Vernon

“Prosperity Cinnamon” fabric by Fabricut in conjunction with Mount Vernon

History lovers can appreciate the story behind Fabricut, one of the designer fabric lines we carry at Panoply. The business was founded by Joe Finer and Harry Guterman, two survivors of Nazi Germany who became friends during World War II and then opened a drapery and slipcover store in New York after the war. They dreamed of opening a wholesale fabric business in the Southwest, so Guterman found them a place in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Finer joined him there five years later. Today, two of the sons of Finer and Guterman are still among those running the company, which offers some 58,000 choices of fabrics and trims.

This month, Fabricut announced the launch of a new collection which was inspired by another time and place in history, that of the first president and his home at Mount Vernon. The collection, Fabricut’s second to be inspired by Mount Vernon, is titled “Fabricut’s Mount Vernon Embroidery and Mount Vernon Trimmings – Vol. II.” According to Fabricut, this collection was “inspired by the first president’s beloved home on the banks of the Potomac River, and this collection builds off of the original fabric and trimmings collection and focuses on beautiful embroidery fabrics and trimmings; its designs have a historical undertone but are fresh for today’s traditional and transitional interiors. Elaborate bed hangings and detailed curtains were prominent fixtures at Mount Vernon. Martha Washington was a skilled needleworker who created embroidered chair cushions as well as other soft furnishings for their home.”

“Mount Vernon’s extensive textile collection was an extraordinary resource as we developed our collections,” says Millie Hammond, design director for Fabricut. “It provided a window into life at Mount Vernon and the fashion-forward style of George and Martha Washington.”
