How do you update a room on a tight budget? The answer of course is paint the room with a different color that still works with your upholstery and the other fabrics that you already have in the room to give you a change and to freshen the overall feel of the room. A wonderful way to really give the room a kick and give it that bright splash of color that you have been wanting to use, is to paint the back and side walls of the interior of a bookcase. It is amazing what this will do to brighten the space.

I helped a client with an update on a new home they had purchased in Atlanta and they were considering tearing out the bookcases that flanked the fireplace. This would have been an expensive endeavor and since there was a lot to be done I felt that money could be better used in other ways. I suggested that they paint the bookcases a more pleasing color that went with the new planned decor. At this point the bookcases were stained a yellow pine color that was already in abundance through out the house in the flooring and trim. We selected a more neutral color for the outside of the bookcase to kill the orange glow of all that pine and then we took the accent color out of the throw pillows and lamps and painted the back and side walls of the interior of the bookcase. As you can see from the picture it really popped and made a huge difference with little expense involved. Try it on your next re-do and let me know what you think.

Community NewNewnan Conference Centre to open soon. Newnan, Georgia

Have been so busy lately that I have not had a chance to keep everyone posted on the conference center that is soon to open. It has been a long 2-3 years since we were awarded the project to design the interior. It has been so long as a matter of fact that I have to keep going back to my story boards to even remember what I did. I am getting really excited now that it is actually about to be a reality. I went out to the site last week and things are really shaping up. The grand opening will be mid June and I hope everyone will come out and see the hard work that has gone into this project. The architect Bob Rasche has done a wonderful job and has held all the suppliers feet to the fire not letting them change any of the specifications which is great and very different from the norm. It should prove to be a wonderful facility and I am very proud to have been a part of its design.

With spring finally here everything is greening up. I look out my window everyday and there are as many shades of green as there are various trees and grasses. Well everything is greening up in the fabric world too. Green always popular and a good neutral has always been a good choice. I believe I see a hint of Yellow (pollen) too. There is nothing like a bathroom redo to enhance your home. Unfortunately it can be one of the most expensive rooms to tackle second only to the kitchen. My advice is to stay in a classic style and don’t do anything of a permanent nature that is trendy. You may like it today but down the road it may wear on you and then your only recourse is to start again.

New Spring Looks in Fabric Newnan, Georgia

Just received a beautiful collection of fabrics from Thibaut in wonderful fresh spring colors. The vibrant orange has always been one of my favorite colors so I can’t wait to use it for myself or someone else. Paired with the blue and yellow it is so bright and cheerful. We could use some bright and cheerful since winter just won’t go away.

Wadsworth Concert Newnan, Georgia

On April 20, 2013, Charles Wadsworth will once again be bringing his artist friends to Newnan, Georgia for a wonderful concert. This year the concert at his namesake Wadsworth Auditorium, will feature Edward Arron, Cellist, Ji-Yong, pianist, Michael Kelly Baritone, Chee-Yun, violinist and a Newnan favorite and Courtenay Budd, Soprano and a Newnan native. This should prove to be a great concert. The only off note is that this will be Charles Wadsworth’s farewell concert. Newnan will miss her native son as he goes into his retirement. Please don’t miss this Farewell Performance on Saturday, april 20th at 7:30. Tickets are on sale now and are $ 20. Fabricut Introduces French General Fabrics Interior Design Atlanta, Georgia

Fabricut has recently introduced a new line of soft faded French inspired fabrics into their Spring line. There are three books and they are all beautiful and reasonably priced. The color titles of the three are Bisque, Bleu and Rouge. They are all printed on washed linen with a beautiful soft hand. Included in the books are florals, plaids, solids, embroideries and stripes. According to our wonderful Fabricut rep, John Piontek, the fabrics were introduced by a designer who made many trips to France and collected vintage French fabrics until the fabrics had taken over her garage and something had to be done. Well, as the story goes she marketed the fabrics or at least their looks to Fabricut for many years and finally the inquiries landed on the right person’s desk and viola, a fabric line was born. It is truly a beautiful line of fabrics and if you haven’t seen it, then stop by Panoply Interior Design and we will show it to you. Color Trends, Pastels making a comeback Newnan, Georgia

Say the word “pastel” and for lots of people it conjures up easter eggs or little girls rooms. However, pastels have re-emerged as a bright, airy, calming option in many settings. Pastels don’t have to be baby blue or baby pink. They can have substance to them especially when paired with colors that are more vibrant and usable.

As part of its 2013 Color Forecast, Sherwin-Williams focused on pastels in a few of the trend palettes. These exude a carefree attitude that reflects current fashion trends but also echo retro color preferences of the 1950′s and 60′s. With the economy being in the tank, people want to get back to having fun and feeling uplifted. The pastels are a bit bolder, including semiprecious gem tones like citrine, peridot and amethyst, set off by crisp neutrals. Hues like Radiant Lilac (SW0074), Rosedust (SW0025) and Bathe Blue (SW6771) are coupled with black and white for a modern edge. And according to the director of color marketing for Sherwin Williams, a minty green deemed the color of 2013 pairs wonderfully with chartreuse, bright coral, periwinkle and violet.
