Mad about plaid

Fabric designs courtesy of Schumacher

The dictionary defines plaid as “a pattern of unevenly spaced repeated stripes crossing at right angles.” Travel lovers may associate plaid with the rectangular lengths of tartan worn as part of the Scottish national costume. Plaids are popular patterns at this time of year, and today plaids are offered in so many colors and styles that they can be used year-round.

Although we often think of plaid in terms of fabric, plaid patterns today are wide-ranging, being used for everything from wallpaper and floor tile to backsplashes, dinnerware and more.

One of the fabric lines we carry, Schumacher, recently noted that “Tartans, plaids and checks are always a good move.” F. Schumacher & Co. is a fifth generation, family-owned company whose designs have been used at the White House, the Chambers of the U.S. Supreme Court, and in many distinguished residences. If you’d like more information about Schumacher’s plaids or other fabric designs, give us a call at Panoply Interior Design and we’ll be happy to arrange an appointment.
